![]() Vitucci's 75th birthday brings back fond memoriesThursday, Jul 16, 09Vitucci's celebrates 75 years of life this year and that news has me walking down memory lane. Back in the day when there was Sweet Doomed Angel on Farwell, Century Hall hadn't yet burned and Beans and Barley shared an Old West-style building with a record store, Vitucci's, 1832 E. Milwaukee's original cocktail lounge is so money, baby, and everybody in the city knows it. Vitucci's has been an East Side landmark since 1934 - it's retro cool without having to try, so cool that the joint's packed silly most weekends with hipsters and college kids chain-smoking and belting out power-pop choruses between rounds. That slick neon green sign says Friday night with the Chairman, but don't worry, baby, Vitucci's has 2008 covered: weekly drink specials, team trivia nights, even a sports fix on their five swank big-screens.Link to Article Old-School TwistWednesday, Jan 10, 07The first time I went to Vitucci's (1832 E. North Avenue), my mom reminisced, "Sounds like it hasn't changed since I used to go there 30 years ago!" While there have been some updates (note the flat-screen TVs) and the crowd is more UWM than baby boomer, Vitucci's has managed to keep its cool as a laid-back cocktail lounge. Eastsiders (and beyond) keep coming back for strong drinks and some serious pool-playing.Link to Article |
